Additional symptoms include tenderness and swelling in the affected area, and it may be common for ankle sprains to occur. Other types of foot pain can come from cuboid syndrome, bunions, and arthritis. If the cuboid bone becomes dislocated, the inflammation that develops will cause a condition that is known as cuboid syndrome. Bunions can be quite painful as weight is put on a portion of the foot to compensate for the protrusion on the side of the big toe. Rheumatoid arthritis will typically affect joints in the ankle and can cause extreme pain.
